blank space is a waste

"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life"

                               Pablo Picasso

I'm a big fan of show like Grand Designs; the architectural ingenuity and forward thinking designs constantly amaze me. However, after all the blood, sweat and tears of building a dream home from scratch, there is always one aspect that I am always bemused by...

Why sculpt and build a beautiful house, only to then leave the walls blank or at best covered in generic wallpaper?! In the words of Picasso, we all need to shake off the 'dust' of everyday life and where better to begin then at home. I'm not proclaiming that every home should be a cold, minimalist gallery. Instead, I want to see vibrant colours, bold shapes and eye catching visuals that tell a story.

Our brains crave constant stimulation, searching for inspiration and ideas in the world around us. I want to bring bold, fresh art back into the living room, the office and the local café. There's no need to create a feature wall with 'off the shelf' wallpaper; why not invest in a piece of art that awakens a space instead.

Renewed Determination!

Art can often take over, dragging you into a closed off world of creative isolation. If you're not careful, time can pass you by as your mind is slowly drained of it's creative juices.

This past year, I have explored many mediums, styles and techniques, in the quest for that one signature style to call my own. More than anything, I would love to one day be able to call myself a professional artist - there is no greater feeling then hearing positive feedback on the art you love to create. However, the mixture of 'creative isolation' and the usual suspect 'procrastination', have held me back from taking that first terrifying step into the marketplace.

I remember a wise guy telling me that, by publicly sharing your targets, the expectation and encouragement from others will help you to achieve them. So, with a renewed determination and willpower (who knows where it came from?), here are my aims for the next 3 months:

1. To get a pitch at a local market

2. To complete 1-2 commissions

3. To have my art hanging in 2 venues

To follow my progress and adventures, keep your eyes peeled for new posts right here!
